Nécrologie de Madelon Georgina Smiley (nee Hayes)

On Monday, July 2, 2018, Madelon Smiley passed away peacefully in Shawville Hospital at the age of 86.  Madelon was predeceased by her husband William “Bill”.  She is survived by her children and their spouses, Heather and Glyn Frost, Mike and Cindy (nee Coles), Gwen and Warren Ford, Ruth and Brian Hahn; and her grandchildren Andy, Anna and Inta Didrichsons, Ryan and Cole Smiley, and Brandi and Ben Hahn.  She is also survived by her sister Elaine (late Don Chamberlin), brother Irwin Hayes (Eleanor) and sister Doris Falt (Jack), numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Phyllis Palov and her family.

Madelon began her teaching career in Ladysmith and continued teaching in Shawville for the remainder of her career and tutored students after her retirement.  Madelon was always active farming, first on her father’s farm in Clarendon and later on the farm she and Bill started in the 1960’s.  Madelon’s greatest passion was her gardening and she was exceptionally talented in crafts and is best remembered for her knitting and cross-stitching.  She was generous with numerous charities including international charities, sponsoring several foster children for many years.

The family is grateful for the exceptional care and compassion of Trish Reid of the Tubman Senior’s Home and her staff and for the extra care and attention of Dr. Wootton.

Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at which time a service will be held in the Chapel.  Reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to Tubman Senior’s Home or to The War Amps.  www.hayesfuneralhome.ca
