Mrs Smiley was a fantastic teacher and was a beacon to many of her students during dark times in our lives. She was not only a wonderful teacher, she was a compassionate and love-filled human being.
Deepest condolences from our family. We were both students of hers at PHS many years ago. She will be fondly remembered.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I remember how welcoming she was each time I visited the farm. I remember her smile, her laugh, and her delicious meals. She was definitely a strong woman with a big heart. My condolences to the whole family.

She was so gracious when we visited her (with the Judds) a number of years ago and shared stories of our 1957 arrival in Shawville from Hungary. Ken and Bill helped us in so many ways as did Madelon. I have many fond memories of Madelon- from visiting her on King St., and being tutored in French on the farm, and in more recent years, planning Hayes Family Reunions at her home on Allan Black Crescent. She was a deeply loved neighbour to Greg & Kris & the boys- her baking was always fought over ! She was a soft spoken, kind, & very giving lady. I will always remember Mrs. Smiley.
She was an excellent teacher and person.
She was a wonderful friend to my grandmother (Harriet MacDonald).
I remember as a child helping her at the farm weeding her gardens. Such a wonderful lady.
