Catherine Elizabeth Horner
1924 - 2014
The Horner family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing on February 15th, 2014 of their dear mother Catherine in her 90th year, following a brief stay in hospital in Shawville, Que. She was the beloved daughter of the late Clifton Woodley and Iva Horner. She is survived and dearly missed by her only sister, Laura Woodley of Ottawa. Catherine was born, raised and educated in Shawville. She worked in the Post Office alongside her father and later taught in a one room schoolhouse on Calumet Island. She was an employee of the Federal Government in Ottawa during World War II before marrying Norman (deceased 1998) in 1953. She spent the rest of her life on her treasured farm at the foot of the Brule Hill and raised six children, Jack (Lynda), Ralph (Denise), Mary Ann (Denis), George (Sandi) and Peter (Renita). She was predeceased by her son Andy (2010) and grandson Jonathan (1999). Granny Chicken is survived by 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. Aunt Catherine is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a patient and caring friend, an accomplished rider, farmer, gardener, cook and photographer and loved all animals, big and small.
The family would like to thank Trish, Sue and Shannon at the Tubman Senior Home, Dr. Lamarche and staff of Pontiac Community Hospital for their care and support. By request there will be no service at this time. The family will gather at a later date to remember this much-loved woman and share their wonderful memories. May she now rest in peace.
Donations to your favourite local charity or a random act of kindness would be appreciated.
