Life Legacy
Passed away peacefully in hospital, Carleton Place, ON. Predeceased by his wife Mona Horner and parents W.J.G. Gibson (Bill) and Ethel (nee Smith) he will be lovingly missed by his daughters Laurie (Dixon Weir) and Wendy (Bill Bennett and the late Dana Downey) and grandchildren Janis and Kiefer Weir, Joel and the late Andrew Downey. Also mourning his passing are his sister Sylvia (Ted Poulin), her son Randy Smart (Susan McConnell), great nieces Alyson, Jenna and Chloe Smart and Susan Smart (wife of his late nephew Doug).
Grant was born and raised in Shawville, Quebec. He graduated from Sir George Williams College, Montreal in 1950 and married Mona the following year prior to beginning his 35 year public service career with Canadian Arsenals in Toronto. He and Mona returned to Ottawa in 1957 when Grant moved to the Department of Supply and Services where he worked until retiring to Shawville.
Grant enjoyed the Pontiac area throughout his life and was a long-time member of the Lake Dumont Fish and Game Club. He also belonged to the Ottawa and Shawville curling clubs. His most enjoyable times were spent at the cottage at Green Lake with Mona, family (including Mona's extended family from the Sarnia area) and friends.
Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre St., Shawville, PQ on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and on Friday, March 18 from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Funeral to follow in Shawville United Church at 1:00 pm. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery.
