Nécrologie de Mary MacIntosh

Passed away peacefully at the age of 78 after several years (8) in respite care at the Pontiac Reception Centre (Shawville). This is a reminder to join Ken and Ben Macintosh at her Celebration of Life to be held on July 25th, between 2 and 5 pm at Hayes Funeral Home in Shawville, Quebec. Donations to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Canadian Naturopathic Foundation (Alzheimer’s). Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was daughter to John and Gertrude Napier (Anderson), the youngest of 6 siblings, and sister to 5 brothers (Bob (deceased), Paul, Murray, Jack (deceased) and Ken (deceased). Mom moved to Quebec in the early 60’s with her husband Peter MacIntosh. Always known for her generosity and “spunkiness” J, she was an active participant within her community (choir director/singer, tennis enthusiast/player, math/english tutor). She was a proud mother to four kids, Greg, Allana, Ken and Ben. Mom will be remembered for her love of music, dancing and for her legendary baking (blueberry grunt, raisin delight, cherry squares, and toasted coconut cake, to mention a few). Mom graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Math and Philosophy in 1956 and a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1957. She raised her four kids in the Pontiac before moving to Ottawa in the early 80’s, returning back to the Pontiac around 2004. Around 1982 mom received her RNA certification and worked with Alzheimer’s patients in Ottawa over the next few years. Thank you so much to all staff, support staff and volunteers at the reception centre and friends who cared for Mom over the years. A special thank you to Madeleine Wittig who provided so much care and support to Mom at the centre, to Maynard Tanner and Janie Campbell for their care in recent months, and to Greg (her son) who gave support to Mom everyday for the past 8 years. Mom, we will remember you often when hanging laundry on a squeaky line, enjoying a beautiful walk on a summer day, tapping to a tune (especially live piano), or attempting to show off some dance moves on the floor. Thanks for everything....We will miss you greatly!
