Nécrologie de Marie Wickens (nee Hodgins)

Marie Wickens, in her 91st year, passed away peacefully in Shawville, Quebec on November 17, 2023.  Daughter of the late Preston Hodgins and Vera McDowell. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Keith Wickens.  Marie is the beloved mother of Patsy (Peter Bourgeau) and Brent (Alanna Racine), cherished grandma of Jacob (Kim), Emma (Will), Joshua (Keysha), Hannah (Vero) and sweetest great grandma of Bentley. Loving sister of Marjorie Rooney and sister-in-law Margaret Wickens. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.  Marie was born in Clarendon on the family farm and raised in Shawville in the home she lived in for more than 80 years.  She loved gardening, baking (famous for her chocolate cake) and spending time with her friends and family.  As a daycare provider Marie cared for many children over the years.  Most importantly she was the center of her family’s universe.  She was dearly loved by all.  Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 11:00-1:00 pm followed by a chapel service at 1 pm.   Interment to follow at Maple Grove cemetery.  The family welcomes you to attend a reception at St. Paul’s Anglican Hall following the service. We would like to thank the staff at the CAP for their compassionate care during her short stay and the CLSC staff for their kindness and excellent care for the last 10 years.  Special thanks to Sally Yereck, Anne Herault, Sandra Rutledge-Barber, Ann Bourgeau and Tania Racine for all of your care and support and of course her loving neighbours who confirmed that there is no better place to live.
