Nécrologie de Wallace "Wally" Morris

It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Wallace “Wally” Morris. Wally died peacefully on April 22, 2023 at Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke, Ontario. Wally was in his 92nd year. Son of the late Stephen Morris and the late Frances Hayes, Wally was the brother of Carmel (late James Harrington), John (Diva Migrino), and Donna-Marie (late Lawrence Matte), he was predeceased by his sisters Norma (late Michael Sullivan), Helen and Maureen. He is dearly missed by his nieces Gail, Bianca, and Alison and nephews Jerry (late), Michael, Greg, Stephen, Sean, James, Nicholas, and Jason, his great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Wally will be remembered for his patience and his predictability. Wally developed the virtue of patience growing up outnumbered by his five sisters. He would often be seen siting in a rocking chair listening silently to the conversations going on in the kitchen. He would smile and offer up one or two extremely pertinent responses, when the time was right. His patience served him well for more than 35 years working for INCO in the nickel mines in Sudbury. He would often make the long drive back and forth to Sheen on weekends in one of his cherished Cadillacs always stopping in Mattawa to enjoy the scenery and to have a bite to eat. Predictably, Wally would make annual pilgrimages to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto and be seen every year at fiddle contests and heavy horse pulling events across Ontario and in Québec. He was a permanent fixture at the fiddling contest in Pembroke and at the Shawville Fair for many many years. The fiddling and step dancing contests and grand championships in Shelbourne and Bobcaygeon were also among his favorites to attend. When Wally moved to Pembroke from Sudbury after his retirement, he could be seen daily at the Irving Big Stop, enjoying his meal and a piece of pie or maybe two to top it off. Wally also enjoyed many events at the Pembroke Legion where he reconnected with old friends and made new ones. Wally took pleasure in many simple things, a good meal, a good book, good music, and good company. Wally cherished time with his family and never missed Sunday mass. He is remembered and he will be missed. May he now rest in peace.
