I will always remember Dave as a lanky hockey forward who was a leading scorer in Shawville House League hockey. We played on opposite teams. After losing several games my team asked me to play Centre and stick to Dave, checking him as I was able. One game in the finals I was at his heals all game and we were ahead by one goal. The puck was passed to Dave and he wound up in his own zone. I had one chance because no one could catch Dave if he got a stride or two ahead. By sheer chance I poke checked him. In total frustration he made a move as though he’d slash this annoying pest. But, being Dave and always a good sport he turned away. As I recall it my team won that game but we were all winners for playing with Dave. Rest in peace old rival. Thanks for being a true sportsman.
