Dear Linda and family,
I was heartbroken to learn of Vernon's passing . He was the truest friend a person could have. We shared so many good times since we first met in high school - our mutual love of sports cars brought us together but our friendship grew over the years and meant everything to me. Vern always stayed in touch, wherever we both were. When I last spoke to him in March, he was determined to fight on. He was a strong man who took even more strength from the family he loved so much.
Marna and I send our deepest sympathy to you all You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I just found out today about Vern passing on a chance encounter with a friend. My sympathies to Linda and all the family. I worked with Vernon when he gave the log building course and I found him to be such a wonderful person. I also saw him in a ship battle reenactment. He was so multifaceted.

In a Memory of my Most Adventurous, Outgoing Guy, The Best Man at my Wedding, My Best Friend for Many a year since the Early 60’s
Vernon Herbert Fairhead
Condolences to all the family of the loss of Vernon
Hello My Name is Martin Hulak; I met Vernon when he his Mom (June) & Dad (Herbert), Sister (Brenda) and Brother {Jimmy). Right from the first day we were immediate friends. We did so many things together, it’s difficult to mention them all. We enjoyed Johnson Street Beach in the summer where we learned how to swim, we joined with many other kids our age there then. We both had a fondness of music all our lives. When we got bicycles, we both went and enhanced our bikes to be more advanced in gears than the kids around us, Most bikes then had 1 or 3 speeds, the racers went to 10 speeds, Vernon had 9 gears and I had 18 gears.
We both joined the Boy Scouts and went on hikes together, and collected badges and advanced in classes. One weekend we decided to set up camp alongside the train track just south of our homes. The spot was a small tract of land between the train tracks and the land drop-off above the boathouses there on Kempenfelt drive. Vernon’s mom came down to check on us and that we were okay. We slept actually, Okay.
Vernon and I met with a few of the kids in the neighborhood. We all played a game called Chase, in the dark, (similar to hide and seek). With our other friends, who were David Reid, & brother Paul Reid, Paul Leclare, Nick Gilder, (now known as a singer in England), Jim Firman, and one other Andy Sample.
I told Vernon, around this time that I had adopted his parents as my parents. My parents were in a different world. His family was warm and friendly, which influenced me a lot. I thank them here for that. Thank-You!
Both of us shared SCUBA diving experiencing. I remember being out on Kempenfelt bay in a boat with our Instructor Ross Cowen (a lawyer with a 1963 Corvette). We were all ready to accomplish our final test underwater whereby, all we had to do was, totally exchange gear at depth with each other then, come to the surface, that was cancelled as a result of an oncoming storm. Another fun thing we both did was Archery. We both enjoyed this immensely. We were both on Barrie’s Tv news and later we both went to the competitions in archery at the Sportsman’s Show in Toronto. In the summers we went to the archery rage North of Barrie where we were shooting targets outdoors similar to a golf course. This was awesome.
Vernon and I went to High school together at Barrie district North Collegiate in Barrie where we both went to the same shop classes together. During the time we went to school we both purchased motorcycles, graduating from bicycles. We drove all over half hell’s creation, and with other guys in the school. We had a hell of a great time together. One January weekend we and 3 others went to Toronto, to buy a motorcycle part. That was one hell of a day it was cold but we all came through OK. Vernon later bought a wild car, a Blue MGB. At that time, I was working in Toronto. Now during that time, he associated with a lot of new people that he came in contact with which motivated him more into what he became today, many of whom we both as well my wife Karen knew.
After high school we kind of went on different paths, I stayed in Barrie for a while then moved to Toronto, Whereas Vernon took a wild trip to Alberta where he had many new adventures there. He got himself oriented with, and advanced greatly, in the enjoyment of music appreciation. When he came back to Barrie, he showed us his wares of music and new music, which I began to enjoy as well and broadened. Vernon got job at Radio Shack, working as an electronic Service Tech.. This was a result after going to Georgian College in electronics. At Radio Shack he met with John Cain of Steppenwolfe. This timing may be, a bit off, however I was a bit jealous of him, and happy for him.
The years went on, Vernon had many friends, and made many more, in Barrie when he came back. Later on, he met Linda Roy and he and her got married. They had three beautiful children, Jasmine, Philipe and Viviane and raised them well.
During this time Vernon had gotten involved in sail boating (Wooden Hulled Craft) and joined re-enactments of the war of 1812, and the like. He and his family lived in Kingston on a sailboat for a while, as he worked for a large computer company (HP). Later he moved into a farm home north of Kinston. Vernon you made a name for yourself in the sail-boating and enactments. Vernon later the family moved to a farm in Shawville that had a Maple Tree Forest. He tapped the trees and boiled the sap to produce a world class Maple syrup. This has proved to be better than anything you can buy in the stores. While there he started the building of log homes. Hats off to you Big Guy. He was truly a man of the earth, this was his passion in life, since High-School, for as long as I knew him, to live off the land and be self-sufficient.
Both Vernon and I shared years of knowledge as we lived going back and forth in communication. Our friendship was there all the time. We also shared ailments that we spoke about. What to do to reduce the pains. There was a lot more that I did not mention, however this gives the gist of Vernon.
PS: I nicknamed Vernon as Fearless as he wore goggles that made his head look as a fly Therefore Fearless Fly.
To let youall know - Vernon gave me permission to buy a Harley. And my wife concurred. √ Thank-you Vern!
Vernon as you look down upon all of us, you will see how you had influenced all our lives and whomever you came in contact with. I for one will always remember you till the day I pass away.
Vernon please hear me WE ALL MISS YOU VERY VERY MUCH. I am talking from my heart to you. You have left a huge void in everyone’s, and my hearts, whomever came in contact with you. Rest in peace my Brother rest in peace
Until we meet up there with Our Lord
Martin and Karen Hulak
You were “The Greatest Man Alive!”
Peace Out
Tears for you

You were extremely handsome in every way. You also were kind, thoughtful and loving to everyone you came in contact with .
You were talented beyond the norm and imbued with a deep and mindful understanding of nature.
Vernon you were truly a "MAN OF ALL SEASONS"
BON VOYAGE Captain Vernon ,though you left us too soon. You will continue to inspire by your example in your absence. I love you!

I will miss you Uncle Vern. I still have the beautiful cradle you made for me when I was a baby. I hold lots of great memories as a child playing baby with Jazz when I outgrew it. When I brought Haylei home from the hospital I placed her in my cradle like I was placed in it many years ago. It is still present for my daughter’s “babies” and many years from now she will also return home from the hospital to place her baby in this cradle. I’ll cherish these memories forever. I hope you found the spot in heaven where lots of maple trees grow. I have been enjoying the sweetness of your maple syrup and the sweetness of my thoughts when I think of you making maple syrup in heaven.
Love “Jennie Baby” XO XO

My memories of my nephew Vernon took awhile to process he had passed.
I was 13 when my older sister June had Vernon it was so exciting to have a new baby in the family.
Over the years we would see him when visiting Mom and Dad and family reunions we always lived a distance apart. When the Tall Ships came to Toronto a few years ago I knew Vernon would be there we had a motorhome and went to Toronto it was exciting to see him on his ship and his parrot. Vernon brought us Maple syrup about 9 years ago in Mount Forest the best Maple syrup.
My grandson Darryl knew I always wanted to go see Vernon and Linda so we were visiting him in Eganville the morning he said Grandma we are going for a drive after about an hour we pulled up this long driveway in the country and I said OMG WE ARE AT VERNON'S AND LINDA'S we had such a beautiful dinner the guys we out and toured Vernons collectibles, such a happy occasion for me. Vernon made the long drive to my 80th birthday celebration in Wingham ontario, another surprise for me to see him again. My handsome, talented, nephew. Me and my family will miss him dearly. FLY HIGH MY ANGEL till we meet again

The expression "We are all replaceable" goes out the window when I think of Captain Vern. A longstanding and genuine friend, our days will be longer unable to call on him. I always thought Vernon was born in the wrong Century, he was a true Canadian courrier de bois! Whether stoking up his kiln to make maple syrup, hueing logs to building homes, paddling his cedar canoe, or enjoying his vintage automobile. He was an Admiral of the high seas reenacting war battles from the wheel. Fond memories at the cottage or the farm. Lived full life, but cut to short. RIP Bro.

Unfortunately I have only had a few rewarding days spent with Vern over the years, but they were certainly memorable... a true Renaissance man, plus his infectious enthusiasm in his passions and knowledge of them... not to mention the maple syrup. Simply the best, as were most things he did. He will be greatly missed and loved always.

I shared very few but very memorable moments with my cousin Vernon. I can't believe such a beautiful soul has left now but is for sure in a better place. I'll always remember the tour of his property he took myself and my girlfriend on of his property and the sparkle in his eye when I was able to bring Lola and Winston to visit him at his place for once.
He'll always be remembered extremely fondly by myself and loved every second I got to spend with him. Rest in paradise Captain Vern, I'll miss you

Vernon was such a beautiful spirit. He seemed a quiet man, humble and homey, but underneath that he also had such panache with his style and love of the grander things in life like his boats, (SHIPS in some cases!), cars (loved that Lotus car that your brother Jimmy tried to drive not so successfully I might add!), motorcycles, building log houses, making maple syrup for all of us to enjoy!
Vernon will most certainly be captaining something beautiful up above I am sure.
We miss you Vernon, gone too soon, much too soon.
